Status: Thanks for your submissions for the 2009-2010 year! The competition for the 2010-2011 year begins at the Awards Ceremony on competition day and will last until August 1st.
Omers are known for their creativity, and we want to see just how creative you can be! Each year we hold a competition for our pin and shirt designs in which the winning design becomes our Illinois Odyssey of the Mind theme for the year! The competition is held in our “off season,” so our Omers can dream up designs freely and continue to flex those creative muscles!
What Makes a Great Theme?
The Illinois pin and shirt represent Illinois both locally and when our teams are meeting fellow Omers from around the world at World Finals. Some questions to consider might be:
- What is popular right now? What colors? What themes?
- What will get people talking? What will catch someone’s eye?
- What is newsworthy or representative of Illinois? How can these be made creative?
- Why would someone from Illinois want this shirt and pin?
- Why would someone not from Illinois want this shirt and pin?
At the end of the day, a “good design” looks good, but a “great design” looks good, carries meaning, and brings people together!
What If I Have an Idea But Can’t Draw It?
Don’t let that stop you! We are happy to accept ideas for what you think a pin or shirt could look like and then create mockups of your ideas should the general idea be accepted. If you can submit even a rough drawing, that’s great! If not, just try to be as descriptive as possible in your idea, and we’ll work with it from there!
How Do I Submit My Design?
Interested in submitting your design or idea? Follow these simple steps below to make that dream a reality:
- Timing: Check the Status at the top of this page: are we accepting designs? The time during which to submit a design falls between Competition Day and August 1st of any given year.
- Digital Format: Did you draw your idea on paper? If so, scan it into a computer into any readable file type (e.g., JPEG, PDF, etc.). If you already created it on a computer or are typing out the idea, then great!
- Email Your Design: Email your design to sales.il.odyssey@gmail.com with your design files attached. Also be sure to include: 1) Your name, 2) Your age, 3) A phone number at which you can be contacted, 4) Your email address, 5) Your city, and 6) Your school information (if applicable).
And that’s it! The winner of the design competition will be notified in the Fall of his/her success, and then the process will start all over again for the next year’s theme!
